Postponing Your Wedding During Covid-19
As we navigate our new ‘normal’ as a society, many brides are faced with the task of postponing or rescheduling their weddings. This can feel overwhelming and stressful, but Creative Transformations is here to help! We’ve compiled a list of tips and ideas for the best way to handle postponing your wedding during Covid-19 or making changes to your original wedding plans.
Update Your Wedding Plans
If you plan on rescheduling your wedding for a new date in a few months, the most important thing to focus on is communication. Speak with your vendors about the possibility of changing your date. Start with your venue, then caterer, florist, bakery, officiant, etc. Once you have confirmed these details, you can send out official invites, or communicate updates to your guests via email. Don’t worry about changing your color scheme or flowers if your new wedding date is in a different season; your vision should come to life no matter what!
If you plan on postponing your wedding until 2021, you can still be proactive about planning now. Again, chat with your vendors about moving your date. If your venue is no longer available on your new preferred dates, schedule appointments with new vendors so you can still move forward in your planning. Set up meetings virtually or schedule a time in a few months for an in-person meeting. If you’re still unsure whether you’re going to postpone your wedding, it doesn’t hurt to have a Plan B just in case!
Celebrate Your Original Wedding Date
Postponing your wedding? You can still spend time with your significant other on the original day of your wedding celebrating your special date! You can have a mini photo shoot outside, whether it’s in front of your house, in a park, or next to a beautiful building or church. Chat with your photographer about having a mini session, or simply have a friend take pictures on their phone (you can do a lot with a few photo editing apps!). You can also order takeout from your favorite restaurant and bakery so you both can enjoy a fancy meal like you would at your wedding. Spend time writing love letters and exchange them with your significant other. Connect with friends and family by hosting a Zoom, Houseparty, or Facetime call; you can even have your best man and maid of honor give speeches. Cheers!
Adjust Your Budget While Still Bringing Your Vision To Life
You can certainly still have the wedding of your dreams even if you have to reconsider your wedding budget. First, decide which aspects of your wedding are most important to you, and how much you are able to spend. There are easy ways to cut back that won’t affect your overall vision. Instead of going on a big trip for your bachelor/bachelorette party, consider a ‘staycation’ in your town. You and your friends can have a fun weekend together without the added travel costs! If looking for a new venue, consider options that are ‘all inclusive’, with the venue space, catering, chair rental, etc. combined into one on-site package. This can be much cheaper than using a venue that requires multiple other vendors to be brought in. Finally, think about some DIY options that would be possible for your wedding. Décor items such as centerpieces, photo backdrops, or signs could be fun projects to create yourself. You can also use websites like Wedding Recycle and Tradesy to purchase decorations from past brides!
